The 11th Latin American Festival Cheque Presentation Ceremony at The Federal Kuala Lumpur

Following the roving success of the 11th Latin American Festival held on Sunday, 30th June 2019 at bbpark, Bukit Bintang; a total of RM50,350 has been raised at the festival for the Society for the Rehabilitation of the Disabled of Selangor.  Federal Territory (PPOC).  The funds were raised from the sales of raffle tickets and food stalls operated by the participating GRULAC Embassies namely Argentina, Brazil, Colombia, Cuba, Ecuador, Mexico and Peru.  The funds were raised from the sales of raffle tickets and food stalls operated by the participating GRULAC Embassies namely Argentina, Brazil, Colombia, Cuba, Ecuador, Mexico and Peru.   The cheque was presented to the Vice President of the Society for the Rehabilitation of the Disabled of Selangor & Federal Territory, YBhg Datin Siti Ruhani Binti Yunos on Thursday, 26 September 2019 at Skyroom of The Federal Kuala Lumpur. 

The 11th Latin American Festival is an annual affair jointly organized by the Group of Latin America and Caribbean Countries (GRULAC) in Malaysia, in collaboration with Plaza Low Yat, bbpark, Federal Hotels International, The Federal Kuala Lumpur, Hotel Capitol Kuala Lumpur, Tribeca Serviced Suites Bukit Bintang and the seven Latin American Embassies namely Argentina, Brazil, Colombia, Cuba, Ecuador, Mexico and Peru.   The event was supported by Kuala Lumpur City Hall (Dewan Bandaraya Kuala Lumpur) and the Latin Ladies Association of Malaysia.

Ms Ooi Lee Ping, Director of Group Marketing, Regional Sales & Business Development and Operations of Federal Hotels International said “The 11th Latin American Festival Malaysia brought the diversity of tastes and rhythms from Latin America and the Caribbean with a colourful event held at bbpark.   The 11th Latin American Festival was a great opportunity for all to experience the rich culture of Latin America, handmade arts & crafts, traditional music & dance, as well as have a delicious taste of Latin American flavors of each of these vibrant Latin American Countries.  This year’s festival theme “Latin America Meets Malaysia”, served as one way to further strengthen the bonding between Malaysia and the Latin American Countries.  The Rhythms and music of Latin America brought the myriad of the region’s beats such as salsa, mambo, merengue, rumba, bachata, tango, cumbia, joropo, samba, condombe.  Malaysia is blessed with diverse culture.  The promotion of various festivities and cultural element will further boost tourism and in this spirit, the 11th Latin American at BB Park spiced up Bukit Bintang and Kuala Lumpur City once again with its magical display of vibrant colors and pulsating vibes of Latin American music and rhythms, food, dances be it Salsa, Samba or Tango, art & craft as well as handicraft from the continent.  We are most happy to work in strategic partnership this meaningful incredibly rewarding annual Charity event, which is one of our FHI Group’s continuous Sharing & Caring Community Commitments.”

About Society for the Rehabilitation of the Disabled of Selangor & Federal Territory (PPOC)

Also known as Rumah Insaniah Dr. Siti Hasmah (Sheltered Workshop) which provides vocational training for persons with Physical disabilities, intellectual disabilities and hearing impairment ages 17 to 40 years. The center comprises hostels providing accommodation for 60 disabled persons and a sheltered workshop providing work and training for the disabled. The Society has provided training, productive work, subsidized accommodation and board for several hundred disabled persons over the years. Many disabled persons have been helped to acquire skill and ability sufficient to find employment in the general community. Such reintegration into society is the ultimate aim for the disabled person. As part of our effort to improve the quality of life, the Society has promoted sporting activities for the disabled. The Society introduced wheelchair basketball and wheelchair tennis and more recently archery. The Society organized Sports Championships for the disabled in co-operation with other voluntary bodies and has helped the disabled to take part and excel in competitions both in Malaysia and abroad.  www.ppoc.org.my
