The objective of this meaningful joint gotong royong is aimed to clean up the Bukit Bintang Central area and to educate the public at large on the importance of keeping our premises in Bukit Bintang and the environment clean and green. Working towards sustainable environment, promoting the 1Malaysia spirit of friendly neighbourhood in Bukit Bintang Central; constantly maintaining and enhancing a consistent clean image of Bukit Bintang to ensure that both locals and tourists alike continue to visit this very popular shopping, dining and entertaining hub in the heart of Kuala Lumpur and as an attractive tourist destination are the main core value of organising such gotong royong.
“Jom Bersih Bukit Bintang 4 Campaign is our 25th gotong royong since 2001 with the objective ofcreating awareness to the public on the importance of caring for the environment by promoting the practices of not littering and indiscriminate dumping of waste. We are proud to announce that we have a record turn out this morning, with 850 participants and supporters in total. This is a new record. We had 700 participants in March this year. We will go to the streets of Bukit Bintang area, interacting and encouraging the public to keep Bukit Bintang clean. The volunteers will also set an example by picking up and clearing waste, and practicing the 3Rs by separating recyclable waste from other waste. Whilst the focus of the Campaign is to create awareness about anti littering, and trying to educate the public at large on the effects of indiscriminate dumping of waste affecting our daily lives, the Organizing Committee recognizes that this twin effect of anti-littering and 3Rs, would help to reduce waste.
This gotong royong Campaign is in line with the “Cleanliness blueprint for Bukit Bintang” which was launched in December 2012. As stakeholders to the blueprint, the Bukit Bintang Central Environmental Committee, will continue to focus on “how we could improve” with the support of Dewan Bandaraya Kuala Lumpur and the relevant agencies.
The debate regarding the negative effects of human activities on mother earth is still on. We would have noted extreme weather starting or already started affecting our earth in more ways than before. Countries with tropical climates seeing elongated hot days, followed by erratic periods of torrential rain and not forgetting the annual haze pollution is a result of human activities. Please be gentle with your waste, do the best thing Reduce, Reuse and Recycle”
“We hope by participating in this event you too play your role by picking up of waste; and the separation of waste; each of us alone can make a difference, but collectively, and doing this together - we will safeguard this beautiful and wonderful city and at the same time promotes the Malaysian spirit of caring, cooperation and harmony” said Mr Simon Leong, Chairman of Bukit Bintang Central Environmental Committee and General Manager of The Federal Kuala Lumpur” said Mr Simon Leong, General Manager of The Federal Kuala Lumpur and Chairman of Bukit Bintang Central Environmental Committee.

It is also one way to motivate every individual to take up environmental ownership and to care for the environment as a way of life for a better living environment for present and future generations. Equal vital importance is the building of a better community spirit to interact, cultivate relationship and understanding among the business people, and people like most of us working in this area” said Mr Louis Sebastian, Executive Assistant Manager of Hotel Capitol Kuala Lumpur.
