Closing Ceremony of the 10,000 Expressions of Green KL

YBhg Datuk Seri Ahmad Fuad bin Ismail, Datuk Bandar Kuala Lumpur (Kuala Lumpur mayor), graced the occasion of the Closing Ceremony of the 10,000 Expressions of Green KL at the Banquet Hall, The Federal Hotel Kuala Lumpur on Tuesday, 15 March 2011. 

In his opening speech, the Kuala Lumpur Mayor, Datuk Seri Ahmad Fuad Ismail congratulated the FHI Group of Hotels and their partners for their collective efforts of successfully completed the campaign of the 10,000 expressions of Green KL and exceeded its objective of collecting 10,000 brush strokes on 10 canvases showing public support for Mother Nature.  “Such forged partnership between the local authority and private sector is a very good example of a Local Agenda 21 programme aimed at working together to plan and care the surroundings within the context of sustainability.  This is indeed, a good role model of CSR involvement to achieve the greater goal of sustainable development and improve the well being of society” said Datuk Seri Ahmad Fuad bin Ismail, Kuala Lumpur mayor in his speech at the closing of the 10,000 Expressions of Green KL.

 “City Hall Kuala Lumpur will support all Corporate Social Responsibility (CSR) activities created by the private sector in terms of logistics, exemption of charges and waive off some of the conditions like payment for deposit, within the context of CSR commitment for the well being of community and to ensure a clean, comfortable and green Kuala Lumpur as a livable city in the world.  This is in line with Dewan Bandaraya Kuala Lumpur’s vision to transform Kuala Lumpur into a world class city by 2020” he added.

The 10,000 Expressions of Green KL was launched by YBhg Dato’ Haji Bakaruddin bin Othman, Secretary General of the Ministry of Federal Territories & Urban Well-being (Planning & Development) on Saturday 15 January 2011 at The Federal Hotel Kuala Lumpur. The 10,000 Expressions of Green KL is a Corporate Social Responsibility (CSR) project undertaken by theFederal Hotels International Group of Hotels with support from the Ministry of Federal Territories and Urban Wellbeing, Local Agenda (LA) 21 Kuala Lumpur Dewan Bandaraya Kuala Lumpur together with their partners who join hands together for the first time in CRS initiative through the programme of LA 21.  The 10,000 Expressions of Green KL commenced on 15 January and ended on 28 February 2011.  The objective is to create awareness of saving our mother earth and develop a greener environment for now and future, be it the young or older generation and raising funds for the YAWA* (Yayasan Anak Warisan Alam) or Children's Environmental Heritage Foundation to support their environmental activities for school children, youths and the underprivileged that have special needs.  Partners of 10,000 Expressions of Green KL carry their respective good corporate citizen responsibilities in this campaign:

• Dewan Bandaraya Kuala Lumpur Local Agenda 21 Kuala Lumpur– sponsorship of door gifts, plants, security and transportation.

• ICI Paints (M) Sdn Bhd - Sponsorship of eco friendly paints for the whole duration of the campaign;

• Plaza Low Yat, AEON and Sungei Wang Plaza – Sponsorship of Venue inclusive PA system, drinks & meals for the volunteers;

• Balai Seni Lukis Negara - Provide Artists for their efforts in painting the globes on the 10 pieces of canvass as well as venue to exhibit the completed Canvass at their location for public viewing.

• Yayasan Muamalat Belia and for the involvement of Celebrities to support the campaign at the shopping complexes.

• Persatuan Penyanyi-Pemuzik-Penulis Lagu Tanahair (PAPITA) for assisting to send celebrities to reinforce the message of creating green environment and their star power to support this charity campaign.

Mayor Kuala Lumpur later presented the Certificate of Appreciation to the Organiser and all the partners for their job well done.

 The 10,000 Expressions of Green KL was open to everyone.  Anyone, everyone can participate in this charity campaign by making a contribution.  For one contribution, he or she is eligible to paint one stroke on the canvass.   Motto of the Campaign - IT IS YOUR STROKES OF EXPRESSIONS, Save our Earth, Do Our Part, Paint Your Expressions, It's in Our Hands!   There are a total of 10 canvasses with each measured at 5m in length and 5' in height.  Schedule of the 10,000 Expressions of Green KL:
